Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.

The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
